New Pulley - New Belt? 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
OK, I swapped out my stock 32-tooth drive pulley for a 33-tooth pulley off of a 1600. I see in the parts breakdown that the 1600 drive belt is a different number. So....does that mean I need to replace the drive belt as well?

I just assumed that the extra tooth was handled in a pulley with a slightly larger diameter, same tooth spacing.

Earl, I believe that the change in the belt was to a narrower, stronger belt. I think you should be okay with the one you have.

Re:New Pulley - New Belt? 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Honestly, I haven't gotten to a place to think about it yet. Just got the new one on and test-rode it last night. At the very least, I will probably hold onto it for at least a little while to see if I have any "issues" with the 33-tooth. May end up like a lot of the forum folks and keep all my stock parts in case I need to go back to stock or want to sell.

So the short answer is: don't know yet

In the case of the front pulley ... it does not matter if you sell the bike with the 32 or 33, most new riders would not know the difference and it's a personal preference sort of thing.

I'd recommend you keep it until you decide whether you like the 33 or not and then sell the extra one.

Correct me if I'm wrong but going from a 32 up to 33 will cause your RPM's to drop at high speed??? In other words if you were turning 4000 rpm range it would lower it down into the 3000 range??

Not so dramatically but yes .... less revs at highway speed but less 'omph' from the red light.

That's it. Since I am not a 'oomph from the red light' rider and do a few longer trips, I'm just going for the more relaxed top end. When I run I-95 to GA, for example, it's 70-80 mph for about 8 hours of that trip....and about 34 mpg. Will see if the pulley makes any real difference.
