Rear Wheel Mis-Alignment 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
OK, so I'm throwing this out there in case someone else has run into this and can tell me what I'm missing.

As I posted last night, I put my 33-tooth front pulley on. To do so, I had to move the rear wheel forward to gain some belt slack. I loosened the rear brake caliper slide bolt, loosened the axle and backed the drive-side adjuster out 8 turns and turned the pipe-side adjuster in 8 turns.

I noticed that the drive side of the axle did not slide all the way forward to meet the adjuster, even after trying to coax it forward. But I had just enough slack to get the new pulley on.

I turned the drive-side adjuster in, matching it on the pipe side. Tightened the axle and caliper slide bolt. Done.

Went to hop on the bike this morning, and there's drag in the rear wheel. I look at it from the rear and, sure enough, the wheel's cocked toward the drive-side.

I loosened everything up again but the axle on the pipe side just won't slide forward. What bonehead thing am I missing?

Earl, I know this may be a silly question, but did you loosen the brake bracket? From experience if you don't loosen that, it won't move. Once, when I was adjusting, I thought I had it all loose, but forgot that brake bracket.

If you're talking about the 14mm bolt that bolts the front of the caliper (with the slide groove in it) to the frame, yes. That's the one bolt on the brake assy I loosened.

That is the one. I figured you probably had that loose, but I know I overlooked it when I did it. Not sure what else it might be.

Confused ....

I noticed that the drive side of the axle did not slide all the way forward to meet the adjuster, even after trying to coax it forward.

I loosened everything up again but the axle on the pipe side just won't slide forward.

If you loosen the brake stay bolt, the axle nut, and both axle adjusters the axle should slide back and forth in the swingarm slot.

Something's wrong. You need to take it apart and find out what is binding.

Got it. Now I just need to tweak it to get rid of the belt whine.

Uhhh.Earl was the problem.

I loosened up the rotor slide bolt, but it was hung up somehow. I took a screwdriver and inserted it under the slide and - zip - the caliper and axle slide forward just like it was supposed to.

I am sure that was frustrating!

How do you like the new pulley? Can you tell much of a difference between the 32 and 33?

Not yet. Will make a judgment after the first full tank. It does seem to run almost at idle in 5th gear at 70 mph. And I don't feel like I have to shift to 4th at 50 any more. That's a start,
