Spun that thing again, I have it apart again right now, its off to the dealer next week to see what they say. I don't see how doing the Loctite bearing sealant can hold that, there has to be something I'm missing.
But I am sure getting fast at getting it apart!!

If you get it lapped completely, there is a lot of surface friction that will hold it without the loctite..the trick is to make sure you are getting contact on all the possible surface area that you can...

All the area needs to be Clean too. Loctite won't do jack if there is oil in the threaded area. Had to clean an old Shovel Head with parts cleaner and Q-tips to get all the oil out of the holes for bolts that would routinely work their way out. Cleaned those areas extremely well , and Presto.....red loctite did actually work. BB

Its an odd thing, I will try and lap the surface of the shaft tomorrow. I just don't see how this is supposed to work. The manual says to oil the damn thing, I am ready to get the welder out...
I'll try the lapping compound, I thought I had it clean enough. Maybe not, more of the saga tomorrow. If I can't get it by Tuesday, off to the shop with it.
One good thing, I haven't been far from home, the Motorycle towing from AAA works like a champ too...

Ahhhh .... I thought you lapped it.

You must lap it or the loctite may not work .... as you've discovered. It you lap it correctly you don't need loctite but can use it if you wish.

Buy fine grade lapping compound from an auto parts store. Thin it with Kerosene to syrupy consistency and use Kerosene to clean up afterwards.

Place some along the shaft, insert lightly and rotate back and forth. When you pull it out, clean it off and you should see shiny spots on the shaft where it's being 'sanded' down. Repeat until it's all even.

Used some green scotch brite on the shaft to clean it up very lightly, then used the lapping compound on it. Cleaned the crap out the shaft and the bearing race. Used the red loctite 609 to put it back together. Now we will see..
I want to get this done so I can get back into the carb..

Re:Starter Bearing Slippage 3 Months ago
I'm defeated, its going to the shop on Tuesday, I can't get that bearing to seal no matter what I do.

Ohh well. Now I am going to start looking for a better ignition system.
Looking at the DYNATEK IGNITION COILS and LEADS.
After I get the bike back we'll see...lol.

Peace
Howie
