SVS Signs 3 Months ago
|
|
Hi Guys
I Have a 2005 R* with 6000 miles on it, and pulled it apart to install the Speedstar ported manifold,
When I looked into the jugs I couldnt believe how much build up there was already on the valves looked like I could scrape it of with a spoon.
Bike is running great most of the time short warm up period, no backfires except on some starts I will get a back fire through the carb if I have to hit the starter a second time. and idle is nice and can be set pretty low and still maintain a smooth idle after warm up.
I also run seafoam through the gas maybe every 4th tank or so and change the oil every 2500 miles
I see this getting worse and creating future problems
looking for anyone who has gone to yamaha about this or if this is normal or what they have had to do to avoid this problem
Thanks Arcturus

short warm up or being able to start with just a couple twists of the throttle, usually means too rich on the low end, ? stock pilot & how many turns out..
the ported manifold will also richen up the mix from what I have read...
probably just need to turn the PMS in to make leaner and hit the rev limiter a little more often to blow out the carbon.

I have the 37.5 pilot and pms 2 3/4 turns , barons bak and bub reinharts with the dyna 3000 set at 34a
all the sudden the choke is getting really finicky and its having a hard time starting and I get a puff of smoke out the carb ,
seems like I have to turn the choke off and gas it when starting
Thanks for any input guys

You didn't specify your main and needle settings.
Puff of smoke means rich but it could be just due to the choke.
Your pilot is richer than stock but it not unusual to run a richer pilot under some conditions.
Choke off during startup again means too rich.
Low idle until warm is normal.
