You dealer is full of it. Yami even makes syn oil. Just don't use oil that says "Energy conserving" in the API label. That means it has friction modifiers in it. That will hurt the clutch.

Remember, never trust the dealer. I've used synthetic in my R* for over almost 40K miles. No problems.
Why not change the oil yourself?

Many of us here have been using Mobile 1 synthetic and other brands as well since the first oil change and had zero problems.

Sounds like your dealer was out of stock on synthetic oil to me.
Pay no attention. I switched from dino to syn. and the engine got noticeably quieter and I think it runs cooler. She's running like a top right now and she's had syn. oil for over 5000 miles. One would think if the clutch were gonna slip due to the oil it would be slipping by now.

Listening to the dealer will get you nowhere. These guys are probably more qualified than the techs at most dealerships. I've run full synthetic for over 8000 miles and have no clutch problems at all. Best of luck.

They make money if it breaks, so they recommend what will make it break. Yamalube did poorly when compared to many other oils, it didn't even come close to any synthetics. Being air cooled, no question synthetic, pick your brand as long as it meets the requirements its the law it can't void your warranty. MC
