MPG Woes 2 Years, 10 Months ago
I'm not sure if this is the right section. And, based on reading some previous threads, I'm not even sure I've got a problem. But, here it is:

I'm used to getting anywhere from the high 30's to the low 40's. At least 150 miles per tank in day to day driving. I just filled up today, and it seemed like my needle was dropping fast. I filled up and it I'd only gotten 33 mpg. I know that's in the range that many of you are used to, but it's a little low for me.

I've also noticed a change in my exhaust note. It seems a bit louder and (I dunno) harsher(?) maybe.

I don't know if it could just be that tankful or if something's getting ready to go. I could just take it to the dealer, but I thought that you guys might have some ideas for someone who's only a little mechanically inclined.

33 isn't bad, depends, are you riding year round and the bike suddenly started this? Did you just take it out of storage? By harsh, do you mean it sounds different and the inside of the pipes black?

Need a little more information I think.

Be careful of gas laced with ethanol, more than 10% and your mileage will drop...... cranking on the throttle doesn't help either...I've found that how you accelerate will greatly effect mileage...

Mine has dropped too I haven't changed my style of riding and highway I would get 45+ in town to and from work I would get 36+. I am getting about the same as you now 32-33. They have changed the gas mixture up on us after gas hit $4-$5 a gallon. As always the big companies robbin the little guys. I'm really getting sick of our government these days.

Back roads 30-50 mph who the heck drives 30-50 .... more like 60 in the curves 80 in the straights. I agree nobull time for Texas to become it's own country again. Succeed from the union I say.

Ya can't find any gas without enthanol any more. I was using the two brands that didn't have it and not they have changed over too. Just another way for the gas companies to make a buck.
