I don't pull the fill plug and just use 2 qts in the tank run for a moment and add the other 2 qts.
I can also get my wrench on the bolt with the bike up on the stand... its just a cheap harbor freight metric set... ground down thinner..
But the 14mm replacement plugs work the best.

Well, I finally got the blasted thing out. And yep..pretty much destroyed the head in the process. Already had a couple 14mm magnetic replacement plugs ready to go in so all is well.

Now it's just a matter figuring out a way to get to the T-case inspection plug without having to pull the exhaust I just installed last week. So much for planning ahead huh?

why would you even need to look in your tcase inspection plug? just curious........

Ummm.....because I'm changing the gear oil as well? The inspection plug/hole is the one you fill the level to.

Speaking of lifts...where do you all usually attach your tie-down straps? I've tried a few different places so far, but it never fails that they end up in my way at some point.

I never strap it. if its balanced then you really shouldn't need it and no one should be hopping on it anyway.

So what happens when you start pulling parts like a front or rear wheel and it throws off that balance?

I have never tied my bike down on my lift. It balances great. But to the topic, as crazy as this sounds, before I got a lift, I just pushed the bike on its side and let it rest on some foam and the engine guards. Got the bolt loose since I could get some leverage on it and then stood it back up and finihsed taking it out.

I remove the seat and throw one strap over the rear fender cross bolt. The other strap I go under the floor boards and through the neck. Kind of secures it not only up and down, but front to back.

Good question. the answer is that the bike is wide enough to completely take off the rear end without shifting the axis (pivor point) outside of the jack base. In other words, not a problem. The majority of your weight is in your engine/tranny.

On that bike lift issue, when i lift my bike it seems to want to rock a little back and forth rather than side to side. So I put a 4x6 block of wood underneath the front tire or a jack stand stand can be used. This really stabilizes the bike a lot for me.
