Thanks, BB. I thought it was 5, but I've seen several references to 4. Since I use the jug to carry the used oil to a recycling center, I didn't want to buy a 5 qt jug and then toss a qt of good synthetic.

Okay, RK, now I'm confused again.
I bought the 5 qt, so I guess we'll see.

I use Mobile synthetic 20w50 V-twin oil. As a word of caution, when changing to synthetic, ensure your empty the bike of all the existing oil so as to no mix it (replace filter, empty crankcase and oil pan).
Even you deside not to use the similar oil I'm using, avoid any oils with a a weight less than 40. Do not use any oils with the words Engery efficiency or feul savings. These oils will not allow your clutch to work properly. By the way, you'll need 4 quarts if you empty both the crankcase and the oil pan and replace the filter.
Good luck

I gotta say, good luck finding the 20w50. I went to three Wal-Marts, including one supercenter that just opened up. They just don't carry it or the 15w50. There's not even a space for it.
Tried Advance Auto, Pep Boys, and Auto Zone, no luck either. Just for $#!ts and giggles, because I've never been in one, I stopped at an O'Reiley on my way home. Damn if they didn't at least have the have 15W50 in qts. Even at buy 4 get 1 free, it was $10.00 more than what WM was selling the 5qt jugs of Mobil 1.
Now, on to the wrenchin'!

4 quarts and walk away! Remember to put the cap on and start it for about 15 seconds after the 2nd and 3rd quart...if you don't, you'll have a mess and then you'll need the fifth quart!
BTW, I use Yamalube 20/50. I rode today in the 95 degree heat and my engine was pretty quiet, as far as Roadies go anyway!

I have always used the mobil-1. The last oil change i decided to try lucas. My clutch started slipping. Drained it out and redid it with mobil-1. She does great again. I also run the mobil-1 oil filter. Its expensive, but i have read alot of filter tests and compairsons and mobil-1 filters are among the best
