Can't get the seat off 2003 Road Star: Midnight 2 Years, 10 Months ago
I just bought a 2003 Road Star: Midnight star today. I can not for the life of me get this seat off. I put the key in the open position like the manual says and nothing happens and the seat is stuck on. Can somebody help?

Push down on the front point of the seat as you turn the key left. Don't push down on the key either.

turn key back without pushing in and if it doesn't pop then smack the front of the seat by the tank. Lube mech there is a tool in the tech section if all that fails you can make.

If you have to get it off right away you can undo a couple bolts and pick the tank up enough to reach the cable/lever at the back of the key switch.

As has been suggested on here elsewhere, once you get the seat up attach a wire tie or something else discreet to the seat latch so that you can pull that in an emergency.

I had this problem when I first got mine and then on a hunch put a fresh cut key (I got the OEM key tag with the bike) in and it worked a good 80% of the time instead of 5% like the old key did.

Max

Once I recover from my wreck enough, I am going to investigate this and see if there is a way to adjust the cable where it may have stretched or whatever else may be causing it. I will post on here when I find a 100% cause and resolution.

Just had a seat hang up yesterday. I swapped my Ultimate for my buddy's stock seat, so he could try mine. His * wouldn't let my Ultimate go!

So, we tore mine down to see what the situation looked like, and here's what we did... take both side covers off... left one first, then the right. Take some stiff wire and bend the very tip 90 degrees. From the right side, we went up behind the breather hose to the oil tank, but in front of the ignition control box, and up alongside the small silver latch mechanism box that is hanging down in the very center of that area. Send that bend up out of sight, alongside that latch box, and start pulling down. When you catch the release arm, you'll feel the resistance... start tugging hard, and it'll let it go.

We made it to work the very first time... then lubed up his latch with some spray. It releases easy now... and best of all, I got my Ultimate seat back!

My buddy says that seat was worth every dime I paid for it! Don't I know....

Quick Q's about my Roadie seat :

Can I ride with out the rear fender ??

Is it dangerous to ride like that , I mean will my seat fall out , will it be wobbly ??

Where can one get one of those stainless or aluminum inner fenders ??

You should start a new thread and you would get more response. Yes you can remove the rear fender without a rear fender you still have the "shoe horn" which keeps the seat on. You may get a bit more water, dirt etc on your back though

Dude . . . no disrespect

I have been in a lot of forums (not bike related) but moderators appreciate more if you ask a related question in a thread , than start a new thread , guess it is the opposite here

Sorry about me posting questions about a seat on a seat related thread erase my post please
