Hey all, I have an old 84 virago that I'm trying to get ready to sell. I The bike will start and run, but unless I'm accelerating the front cylinder dies out. The rear cylinder seems to run consistently but without the front cylinder it can't idle and runs pretty jerky. Nothing like feeling cylinder 2 kick in at about 3000 rpm.
I had a virago, with the exact same symptoms, I also replaced and/or worked on all of the areas to have listed. In my case, I had bank repoe that I had purchased, with only 500 miles on it but it was out of warranty
Symptom was couching and choking, unless I got on the throttle, and at abt 2500-3000 RPM's. At that point both cylinders would kick in, and just abt pop a wheely on the bike
I my case, it was the Carburetor settings, After multiple attempts to correct it, I removed the carbs, and cleaned them, examined them and so on. I also removed the jets and screws, recording all the settings on the good
carb vs the suspect carb. as it turned out, the front carb we set somewhere in left field
I would suspect your
pilot jet in clogged, and miss-set after all your attempts to get it ready to sell
after I matched the settings, it ran like a top
