Jack Stands 2 Years, 3 Months ago
I know quite alot you have various jackstands for service, I`m leaning towards the J&S http://www.jsjacks.com/index.htm VS the yellow sears. For those of you that have the sears can you do what these guys do on their stand?? awful sturdy it seems, so I was wondering what ya`ll thought.

Looks a lot like my sears jack to me. I wouldn't be sitting on standing on the bike on the jack for anything even of it won't fall. One thing about any of these jacks id the rubber pads on the top of the stand they tend to brake loose afer a while.

what i`m getting at, is your bike real stable when its up on the stand or do you have a concern about being real careful, do you tie it down.

Nope I don't tie it down and if ya crank on the back or front axle to torque them or brake them loose it will rock slightly but nothing to worry about. I have to figure out how to replace the rubber pads with something that will last longer. I think my son used it to jack his car up once and broke them loose.

Yeah... The rubber pads on mine are FUBAR, too.

"If something can go wrong, it will."
If I'm going to be doing any heavy torquing while the bike is on the lift, then I use ratchet straps to secure the bike to the jack. It keeps things a little more stable and worry-free. (Because if there was a slim chance of my bike flipping off of the jack and smashing into mama's car and caving the door in, just before the bike crashed to the floor and busted into a million pieces, it's bound to happen.)

It hasn't happened yet, but the Wrenching Gods hate me...

Same here. Normally I don't need to tie it down on my red Sears, unless I intend to do some serious wrench-torquing.

I have the yellow sears jack, I would NOT do what these guys do on my jack but, I don't tie it down and I've been pretty happy with it for the $$.
