Pushrod picture backwards in manual? 2 Years, 2 Months ago
So I have my bike in a million pieces. My outside lifter was all jacked up (pictures to come) and when I cranked it with the rockers exposed only the front rocker was moving. However hte picture in the manual shows the outside cam lobe pushing the pushrod to the rear lifter, and hte inside pushing the front rocker. However on my bike it was hte outside lifter that was messed up, yet the front lifter was moving. Can anyone verify for me that the outside cam lobe is supposed to move the rear lifter?

This in my immediate experience would show pushrod orientation backwards:

If I remember right you are not the only one that has run into this. I just took a look a a dealership parts breakdown to make sure and the outside cam lobe drives the FRONT rockers. Best bet is to line your timing marks up and make sure it is TDC and see which lobe is where.

The outside cam lobe is for the intake; which is the front rocker on the rear cylinder and the rear rocker on the front cylinder.

Well, it's done and back together. Thanks for the help on that.

Couple pictures:

Can anyone spot the bad lifter in the 2nd picture? The surface was concave...

As it turns out the carb was jetted to match the strait pipes. Here's a video of it running:

Hope the video works, it's a pretty light show.

Nasami,i see the bad lifter in 2nd pic, very typical of flat tappet lifter that's worn out due to possibly using an oil without enough zddp/zinc & phos.

So be sure your using an oil witn enough zddp in you bike with new lifter/s ,v-twin bike oils come with enough zddp to do the job.

But many of the over the counter pass car oils dont have enough zddp anymore to properly protect the falt tappet cam in your R* so be mindfull of that so you dont risk wearing out another lifter.

THe oil was just changed with the trans recall. In 200 miles I plan to do it again with mobile 1 full synthetic 20w-40 and a new oil filter, just to clean it up.
