Hard to remove spark plugs 2 Years, 2 Months ago
Hi, I'm changing over to iridium plugs. The two plugs on the left side came out very easily. The two on the right side are so hard to remove I'm afraid of breaking them. They start to come out but don't get any easier. Am I missing something or should I just put the muscle to them?

Ok never mind heh heh something clicked in my head and I realized that the socket was too thickwalled. They're loose now and I can move them by hand. It would be easier if my fingers were a couple inchs longer! It's a 2009 Silverado and now I'm on to removing the AIS. The instructions here don't exactly show what I'm seeing on the bike so it may be a little trial and error at first but hopefully I'll get it.

Once they are loose you can put a piece of rubber hose about 6" long on the plug and turn it with that.... I got short fingers too...

You should dab a little anti-seize on the threads of the new plugs before installing them.

Anti-seize is very important, also use Flashback's tip in reverse. Take a piece of fuel line and put it on the end of the spark plug, use the hose to turn the spark plug as you get it started, this will prevent you from cross threading the spark plug, which is EASY to do and HARD to fix.

Thanks, I did put anti-seize on them. I knew about the hose trick but I don't have any on hand. I'm tired of running to the tool store. Seems for every thing I do I've got to get a new tool for the job. I'm building up quite the tool chest as well as Roadstar parts

Hey Charmed... I'm about to start the same thing with the spark plugs. Did you have to take the gas tank off?

I'm sure others far smarter than me will chime in but I see no other way to get the plugs out, other than removing the tank, especially the two plugs on the exhaust side.
