Yeah the tank has to come off for the exhaust side.

CPO - I like the new sig pic. I notice the left side of the bike looks a little cleaner! Nice Job! The 2 mascots look very happy as well.

Thanks man they may look happy in the picture but they sure weren't happy about being that close to the bike, they just don't like it at all.

Sorry

You can spray alittle WD-40 around the plugs before removing and let them sit for awhile. It helps greatly taking them out.

You are replacing your spark plugs on your '09?
How often should this been done? I have an '08 with 4k on it that was new in June '08.
I removed my AIS last year. Just follow the plumbing and take your time. No problem!

Replaced the resistors and spring in the plug caps with #6 copper wire. http://tinyurl.com/ygcaj6j
Supposed to eliminate some spark issues. Got a ways to go to get it all back together so I'll find out then.

I would keep the spring and cut the wire to the length of the long resistor. I included the part of taking the spring out because others had said they did it that way and I figured people should have all the info. But people had their caps crack and I think it was from not having any give from the taking the spring out. Just my guess. No proof.

Mainly what it does is get rid of parts that we don't need that can go bad. We run resistor plugs so we don't need them in the caps too. And I'm thinking 2 resistors could hurt the spark, but again no proof. These are automotive plug wires. They're not made for Yamaha. Two wires are for a Nissan car, and two for a Nissan truck. So maybe in those applications they need the cap resistors.

Makes sense. I'll revise the wire length to accommodate the spring. Cutting the wire to "length" is a best guesstimate. With the spring at least you know the ends will be in contact. Thanks Musky.

Are you sure that the resistors aren't there to raise the voltage output of the coil? Just a thought.

Lots of people have lots of miles without them. But it's each riders choice to do it or not.

Not saying it won't run OK without them. Just never figured out the real purpose for them. And that is the only reason I can think of.
