Please help re: throttle cable replacement 1 Year, 10 Months ago

My throttle cable broke, right at the handlebar end. Luckily it broke while I was revving up to take off on a ride, so I was at home.

During a short look over the bike, it looks like the gas tank has to come off to replace this cable (I don't have a shop manual).

I'll probably just go with stock replacements as my bike is stock. I don't want to go single-cable or anything.

I was wondering if anyone else has replaced theirs and can offer advice? I'm wondering how long it might take to do this -- I'm thinking that at this time of year, the shops will be pretty backed up with work.

I've only had the bike for a month, so haven't had to do any more than an oil change. I have some experience removing gas tanks and all, on my V-Star.

Here is a link to the service manual you can download. I had mine off last year and I don't remember anything difficult about it. Pull the tank and it will all be there right in front of you. Manual

Thanks, fireman922. Another question occurred to me: is there some special tool that should be used with these cables? Seems like pliers would have a good chance of fraying the cable.

Papa Bear: with a new battery installed, i get all lights and electronics functioning when I push the starter button, but only a click. No starter rotation at all. Prognosis please? Papa Bear
