Transfer Check? 3 Years, 6 Months ago
I was just wondering how you guys with aftermarket pipes check your transfer oil level. I have Cobra pipes on mine(bought it that way) and they are in the way of the check hole. Thanks!

Check it why? When I change it I drain the oil and put a measured amount back in. I do not remember the exact amount, but I have a metered beaker and pour the required amount in. The weep hole is blocked by many after market pipes and removing them is a pain. I followed this procedure the last time I changed the transfer case lube, about 12,000 miles ago and all seems to be fine.

I just wanted to check it to make sure it had the right amount in it since I bought the bike used.

20Penny--

I can't blame you for wanting to check, but you may need to bite the bullet and loosen up the offending pipe. Aside from being a PITA, it shouldn't require much more than time...the (stock) pipe-to-head exhaust gaskets are reusable. I lucked out with my HK's...they don't block it at all.

Yep..really no way around it. I have Cobra low boys and when it came time for my 16k change, I just pulled the top pipe off and did it...no big deal. But I like tinkerin'!

Why check? You got it used, probably not a bad idea to change it out regardless, and apply the proper amount of fluid when refilling it.

If you take the pipe off get a new exhaust gasket. I know some of you have been able to reuse them, but mine have always leaked when reused. The fireworks are impressive though. Last time I was getting flames a foot long out of the pipe when she backfired, until I changed the gasket.

Wonderful Roadliner stock pipe requires it be removed to check/change/whatever the T/C fluid. Terrible pipe design , but I just bite the bullet and drop it. BB

Do a change... and drop the pipe. It holds 13.44 ozs. You wouldn't have to look at it again for a long time.
