Belt is squeeking worse now... 2 Years ago
My belt has been sqeaking a lot lately, ecpecially when I'm going at slower speeds. I tightened up the belt and now the squeaking has gotten a lot more loud and does it at all speeds. It gets worse when I give it gas. Could I have tightened the belt to much? I tried to soap thing with not much luck. Thanks

You overtightened the belt.
If you continue riding it this way wou will stretch the belt if you not already did.

It will snap if you dont lower the tension.

With a 5lbs force it should give only about 1" standing on the jiffy.

Have you done anything to the rear wheel/pulley lately? Check the alignment. That'll cause some squeaking. Otherwise you should be able to twist the bottom part of the belt at a 45 degree angle with a little effort. Too tight and it'll cause more problem than you need.

I agree with both. Sounds like your original issue was alignment and then you made it worse by overtightening it. Fix the tension first and then work on the alignment.
