Well thanks guys I just have a little over 100 miles on this oil change.I used castrol 20-50 4 stroke motorcycle oil.But this noise started to get louder before I changed the oil. There are the original ticks and knock and then this faint tic that gets louder and then fades away,as you cruise along at a constant speed.I don't know where to get the sea foam you guys are talking about here.Would something like S.T.P. fuel treatment work?Oh ya rcfumes as tempting as the offer is I think I'll pass unless you want through in a Harley lol.It may sound like I'm really down on this bike but,I'm not I love the performance and everything else about it.Just trying to figure whats normal and whats not.

Does the noise stop when it gets good and hot? Or after a very long ride? Here's my opinion:
If the bike is not tuned perfectly, or you use the choke just a little too long you get carbon built up on the rear exhaust cylinder valve stems. The rear will always run a tad richer than the front. The build up stalls the valve from closeing just enough to create lash. After it's been run for awhile if the build up is not bad it gets knocked of, or the valve guides expand enough to allow better movement. If the bike gets realy hot the carbon build up turns to a liquid goop allowing free movement till it cools down and gets hard again. The valve guides are cut way tight and the springs are not the best. I would put good money on a bet that if anybody who has this type of problem were to put stronger springs or ream the valve guides the problem would go away for good.

I've tried Castrol 20w50 then changed to Valvoline 20w50. Definately less noise with the Valvoline! Have not tried the Royal Purple yet.

This might sound kinda weird, but did you recently put a windshield on? I know that the windshield reflects some of the sound from the engine and I can hear it a whole lot more when it's on. Lately I've been riding with it off and can't hear the motor nearly as much.

Just a thought..

Well as a matter of fact I did put the wind shield on and that is when I noticed all the other noises. But this one started a while after it was on.It starts to tick and I hear the knock when it's warmed up.I changed plugs today and I noticed first that all for plus were loose. One rear plug looked wet.I could smell raw gas on this plug.I didn't see any signs of leaking around the plugs. But I wonder if it was a exhaust leak I was hearing from around the plugs?I couldn't take it out when I was done to much rain.

Re:Lifter noise 2 Years ago
Well I tried the bike yesterday with the new plugs and it did run a lot smoother. It didn't feel like an unbalanced motor any more.I ran it pretty hard for about 3 miles,80 mph in 4th gear. The lifter noise that was coming and going seems to be gone.I've put 600 miles on the bike since I bought it and all the other noises haven't gotten any worse,so I guess it's just the nature of the beast. If there was something wrong it should of gotten worse or failed by now.
