Petcock question 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Just took off my tank. Went to pull the gas line coming out of the petcock. I moved the clamp out of the way and went to pull the gas line off, when the nipple from the petcock came with it. Can this just be pushed back in? I'm thinking I might get a leak, but it came out with no effort at all.

Anything I can put in there to help seal it?

Thanks....greeny

Same thing happened to me last year. I stuck the nipple back in place, stirred up just a dab of epoxy & rubbed it around the joint where the nipple goes into the petcock. Let the tank set undisturbed overnight before I re-installed it. Worked like a charm. I've had the tank off several times since w/no trouble.

Thanks guys....tank is back on and I pushed it back in nice and tight. No leaks that I can see but I'll keep an eye on it.

Sounds like a common issue when I say me too. I did just like Curt used a small block of wood and gently tapped it into place, that was about 2 years and 15,000 miles ago. No leaks.

Mine too, quite a while ago, I didn't use a piece of wood, probably should have, just a 14oz hammer and a couple lite raps, must have had the tank off 30 times since. What can I say, I love to tinker with something or another, either the carb, playing with various dyna settings, different my own design air kits, just to compare things.

Re:Petcock question 1 Year, 11 Months ago
I was tinkering today myself. Rerouted the crankcase vent to a filter under the tank. Changed my pilot back to stock. Changed plugs and oil. Did a 2 hour thorough cleaning. Then finally took my daughter to the pool. All in all an excellent day.

I'm getting the bike prepared for a road trip to the Keys. That and trying to get my MPG up a tad before hitting the road.

I think it's kinda funny how I thought I screwed up my petcock and it turns out quite a few of y'all had experienced the same thing. Makes me think the stock petcock might have a slight flaw.

Thanks everyone for your help today....greeny
