After a LOT of try this and that, 4 broken drill bits, 3 stripped Sears taps, 1/2 bottle of propane gas, 4 days of my time and countless looks at the whiskey bottle I went with the JBWeld (24 hour curing stuff). The last attempt had the angle off by just enough to cause me to get VERY . Ended up with a 3/8" hole. At that point I knew I was on the verge of getting another jug. Got the stud in place now I'll wait a day or so and see. Heard mostly good about the stuff. Never used it but we'll see.

JB Weld is not the answer! The stud will pull out it of it in a heartbeat. What you need to do is to get a new stud, then take it to a realy good hardware store and get a helicoil kit for that thread. Install a helicoil in the hole and you will be in business.

I wonder if I should pull the studs on mine before they break and replace with a better quality stud?

The JB is something I never tried but have heard it's good for many applications. Already got it in so I'll find out tomorrow about this time. If it don't work I'll redo it with the helicoil. Ain't been there so I gotta try it. It's the stubborn German in me. If it don't work for my application I'll be sure to pass the word.

Clifford is right. JB isn't a fix. Put a Helicoil in and forget about it. If you have never done one , they are really hard to screw up on , and once it's done (right) , you'll wonder why you have never used them in the past. BB

You might look at using a Keensert. Most Industrial supply stores have them or can get them.

Those are super cool. Way better looking than a Heli-coil.

I've had a lot of success using Time-serts. They take a couple more of extra steps compared heli-coils but they seem to work better.
