Do any members have any experience with Castrol 4T 20w-50 or Valvoline 4 Stroke 20w-50 ? Both oils are for motorcycles and carry JASO MA rating. The Castrol is SH SG and the Valvoline is SF SG SJ rated . Both oils indicate that they good for big V twins. I guess my '04 1700 qualifies!!
They are not synthetic.

Both are fine

Mobil v-twin at $10 bucks a quart is a small investment to me if it keeps my engine clean and protected..to me its pay now or pay later..oil is the engine's life blood..best thing i can get for under $50.00 with the filter..

Exactly/Well said !!!!

And the higher cost for the full syn oil can be partially offset by the longer drain period/miles inbetween oil & filter changes the fully syn oil can offer too.

So far, Valvoline 4 Stroke 20w-50 has been working fine for me in my'08!
I don't put enough miles on annually to justify the expense of synthetic.

Why not use synth and leave in twice as long

So far, I have only 5,100 miles on my '08 that I bought new in June 2008. I only ride for pleasure. I'm not a daily commuter. I live in Michigan so my bike is in storage 4 to 5 months out of the year. I change the oil once in the fall when I winterize it and once in the spring after I get it back out for the season. I don't think that it would be smart to leave a synthetic oil in the engine for 2 or 3 seasons. Do you?
