What i am seeing here is that within the same filter mfg's there are at times 2 dif filter pt#s which looks to simply be either they are black & or chrome in color and or long or short (std and higher capacity) version.

I got my initial info on Mobil 1 filters - indicating the M-108 was the choice - from a Roadstar chart somewhere on the net. You just cant believe everything you read no matter how well intended.

But to get real here i did some crossovers from stock yami oil filter and or looked on mfg's site/s and those pt# all seem to be good from what i can tell.

Like i already stated it looks to be a matter of black vs chorme and or long hi capacity vs short stock oil filter that's where the confusion is with mult pt's from same oil filter mfg for same application.

I still love my K&P permeant filter easy clean no hassles and great bypass. prevents chugging not that I encourage testing that.

Well since i added to the confusion posting the oil filter list for those that care i updated & pasted below a revised list of oil filters for our r*'s comming from your 1st hand info in this post and also the link provided in this post to the oil filter test that had their picks for best oil filters.

Hope this helps reduce the confusion and make avail a list of more then enough oil filters avail today to suit our needs.

The purolator ML16817 is a motorcycle filter and has the correct relief valve of 9-12 psi

again just my opinion but i wouldn't use the pure one pl14610 on a motorcycle. it was designed for a car with a relief valve of 14-18 psi.

Not a bad suggestion but its pretty darn hard to clog an oil filter even the small one on a R* which would be when the bypass valve would come into action.

about the only time that would happen is when running a filter maybe 8k mles or more & also when using moly past type assembly lube when installing new lifters /cams which is a fairly common issue in that case.

But i figure since there are so many bike specific filter options out there these days why bother with an automotive type filter in the 1st place to avoid any issues with dif bypass lvl's if such a situation came up.

Scotto is right on with this data. I too had the 108 as the one for the R*
but I switched to the 110 when when I did my first oil change.
