I hope you post that report,i would love to see the reasoning behind that idea..

I'm with you, would love to see that. Only reason I could see is that parts don't wear and will have tight clearances. Maybe things need to "loosen up" a bit to work better.

The gusher question was answered, but I am curious as to how much is actually lost. It isn't very easy to get all of the oil out of a filter to measure it, and we know how easy it is to "properly" check our oil level. How much should you top off with if you just change the filter?
Weigh your new filter and drain pail before you pull off the old filter. Put the old filter in the drain pail with the oil that came out when you changed filters. Re-weigh the drain pail and subtract off the weight of the filter and drain pail. Knowing that a quart of oil weighs right around 1.8 pounds, you can figure out how much you need to put back in.

I read a report some where that states changing the oil too often is just as harmful as not changing the oil at all. I'll have to dig that report up and post later

I think that has to do with the second or two it takes for the new oil to pressurize and fill the empty space while starting up. It's why it's recommended to prime engines where possible. Did that when I rebuilt my Pontiac 421 tripower. Used drill with special bit (broken off screw drive in a pinch) down the distributor hole to run the oil pump to prime everything.

Since there's no way I know of to prime Road Star there is some truth to this.

It's also why it's important to pre fill oil filter. Saves that fraction of a second for pump to fill empty filter. But I think thats harder to do with horizontal mount like ours
