Question? why change the plug? I've changed my oil and replaced the crush washer and never had a leak.

Some, like myself, went to a magnetic plug. They come with a plastic washer... useless.

Although I have never used this method on my RS, I did have a dripper that I took care of by using teflon tape on the drain plug.

Got my 99 Silverado with about 14000 miles--has since changed the oil 3 times and reused the original washer each time--no leaks. And just a question--instead of using a magnetic plug--how about sticking a magnet on the outside of the oil filter-- maybe on the bottom of the filter. Would that work as well?? Ronnie in MD

I don't think that will work. Whatever already reached the oil filter will be trapped there. Add the magnetic or not should not make any difference. On the other hand, the drain plug located at the bottom of the engine, the magnetic down there will keep those small ones staying there instead of moving to the other places to cause damages. Just my opinion...
