I don't think that will work. Whatever already reached the oil filter will be trapped there. Add the magnetic or not should not make any difference. On the other hand, the drain plug located at the bottom of the engine, the magnetic down there will keep those small ones staying there instead of moving to the other places to cause damages. Just my opinion...
