Throtle return rate 1 Year, 3 Months ago
Hello All

First sorry if this is a stupid question, I did do a search and couldn't find anything relative.

When I used to ride a life time ago my throttle "sprang" back to the starting position. Well on my 02 roadie it only kinda springs back (rather slow if you ask me). Is this by design or do I need to check the cables for kinking and what not? Also, I had a "service" performed when I bought the bike, would they have lubed the cables? How do I know if I have non-nylon lined cables? Clymers

I am going to rejet the carb soon should I put in a ported manifold?

I really appreciate the help.

Sounds like you need to lube the cables and you can check the slide spring in the carb if you pull it ti rejet. As for a ported manifold I say yes but then I have an add in the classified for porting them.

Curt does top shelf Work. When you get it back its almost a shame to put something that nice looking in a hidden spot not to mention way cheaper than anyone else

The throttle return is probably the cables sticking but if that doesn't pan out pull the grip off and make sure nothing started growing on the handlebar or in the control

my brother was having the same problem, turns out he had the throttle grip pushed up tight against the end of the bar (kury iso's) on his apes

+1

Exact same thing happened to me. I just loosened up the screws, slid the grip away from the bar end MAYBE 1/16" and freed it right up. FWIW, I have better throttle "snap back" running just the throttle cable & not the return cable...seems like the drag of the second cable slowed things down just a hair. Go figure...

I had that problem and the cable adjustment was too tight. check the adjustment at the carb.

Hey Roadkill,

Don't let Ralph Nader see you only have a pull cable. That second cable is so you can close a stuck carb! How many times has that happened to you and the second cable saved your bacon?

(For those who read too literally, I am teasing)

I had the same result as JEastonjr. Loosened up the adjusters just a little bit at the carb and problem solved.

Oh, I get it, JD, believe me...LMAO

Using the same logic, I should have had TWO gas pedals on my old '70 Duster--one to accelerate, one to safely decel before I hit the brake... I miss that car...I swear that Carter carb was as big as my head...
