I would like to check the nut that secures the front drive pulley.Do I pull the cover or does the little round plug in the middle of the cover pop out?

Remove the cover. The round thing will come out but only by pushing it out after you remove the cover. I wondered the same thing and found out the hard way.

You need to unbolt the 5mm allens that hold that cover on. There is to pins with nylon rollers in there as Well that help keep the belt from jumping off the pulley.
