Oil Leak from Transfer Case 1 Year ago  
Hi all,

Well it seems my Roadie is leaking oil from the transfer case. Does anyone know why is this??

Are you sure you didn't overfill the oil? There is a tank vent below the transfer case for the oil tank.

No, it actually has been doing before I had an oil change and afterwards as well.

I overfilled my transfer case and it leaked from the top of transfer case out if the vent,ran down side of transfer case after riding

Are you sure it's gear oil? It will stink, especially if in a garage, can really smell it. Thats how I found my leak at the front pulley, could smell the stuff.

Excuse my ignorance, but I don't see any type of vent for tranfer case in the service manual nor in a parts fiche. So where is this vent?

Well, it is coming from the top of the transfer case and like from the cover.

Sorry erbman I just assumed there was one on mine it only leaked until fluid was at proper level,looked as thought it came from top of transfer case and ran down the side of cover,its fine now that its no longer overfull,there was no sign of leakage from fill plug area just top of transfer case
