Hi everbody
The seat on my 03 will not pop loose when I put the key to "open" position and depress. Thanks for any suggestions. Colyd

depress what? the key or the seat?

usually you have to press down on the front of the seat to get it to release.

The cable will eventually get mucked up and won't unlock.

Here is a post by MS1700 that will show how to make & use a tool to open the seat latch. I had to flush out the cable on my this year to get the key unlock working again. I wish there was a plain old seat latch, like the old days.

Re:Seat does not unlock 1 Year ago
Couple of things ...

I found a quirk with my '00 R*. If I tap the top of the key while in the ignition before I turn it to the left to unlock the seat, the seat unlocks and opens every time. Sometimes, I do have to push down on the seat near the tank before it comes up, but not all the time.

Last time I had the problem -- about a year ago -- I took the entire unlocking mechanism apart, oiled and lubricated and cleaned. It has worked like a charm ever since. Took about an hour or so, but worth it.

First

Second, you don't depress the key to unlock the seat, just turn counter clockwise and maybe apply a little pressure to the front of the seat until it pops, then lift. BUT DO NOT DEPRESS the key, it will just lock your fork.

Do not push down on the key, just turn it to the left and tap or push down on the front of the seat right behind the tank as you turn the key. Had the same issue and thought something was broke. Might have to put quite a bit of pressure on the seat to get it to come loose. Oil everything good once you get it off.

oops, sorry Darn, looks like were posting about the same time.
