New TD Leather Bags - How to waterproof/maintain? 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Just picked up some brand new plain Tour Deluxe leather bags. What's the best way to waterfroof and maintain hem like new - other than leaving them in box

there's discussion from today on leather care. Lots of good tips. Treat them like expensive boots, and you can't go wrong.

I'm particulary concerned about waterproofing around stitching. My first pair started bubbling up around stitched sections in the rain.

For decades I worked outdoors in MI. During the wet fall winter and spring all off my leather boots I used Sno-Seal. It's kind of waxy, and if you use a blow dryer to warm the leather with it it will definitely seal the stitching. I'm not sure it won't attract dirt tho. You might use the blow dryer deal with some beeswax though. When the leather is warm it just soaks into until saturated. Doing this on the stiching would probably yield the results you are looking for

Sno-Seal is made by Atsko

Doc Bailey's works great. I use it on my boots, jacket, seat, and saddlebags. You can get it on line.

Mink oil....might not have a fancy name but its worked fantasticly for many many years. Especially on stitching. Apply it in the sun and it soaks right in. A good cleaning w/saddle soap first (if theyre not new) gets the leather clean and ready for the mink oil. I have a pair of hunting boots that are 16 yrs old that have been taken care of w/both those products. Theyre in excellent cond and water proof.
Just my 2¢

I have a question along this topic. I need to treat my leather Silverado bags and bought some supplies last night. I bought Kiwi products including: liquid dye (black), Saddle Soap, and mink oil. In which order should I use these products?
