After about '81, Bauhaus went away. They were over harvested, and are a protected species now! I use saddle soap, mink oil, and boot cream on mine. Boot cream will keep the black blacker lo nger.

I use saddle soap to clean off the dirt and grime. Then I let a can of mink oil and a can of black boot polish (Kiwi) sit in the sun until semi-liquid. I mix 'em up and smear liberally onto the leather bags with my fingers, working the stuff deep into the leather and the seams. Let sit in the sun until well-absorbed, (you can use a hair-dryer) and finish by rubbing any excess into the bags. They will stay nice-looking all season with just a touch-up from the Lemon Pledge once in awhile, and will be very water-and weather resistant. I decided this season to take my saddlebags and brackets off except for LD rides... I like the looks without them, and I'm hoping to keep them as nice as possible for the future.

I redid mine about 2 weeks ago. Removed them off the bike and redyed them. let them sit in the sun about 2 hours and put them back on the bike. waited 24 hours and did them with Armourall Leather Conditioner and they look brand new!

One question here. OBMF, nice instructions, is that for leather or the fake stuff or BOTH?
I'm not sure what mine are made from but most likely, the fake stuff.

Riding = Living. We need it. We live because of it. We breath it. It keeps us alive, plain and simple. When we ride at the RIGHT TIME, or with the RIGHT PEOPLE, or to the RIGHT PLACE...we COME ALIVE!

I just noticed today, that Yamaha(Star) has a polish/protector out in a tin that looks like a shoe polish tin, for the black leather stuff on the bikes.

I will throw my opinion in here. I am the manager in a Detail shop. Leather cleaner and conditioner will help restore any loss of luster. Saddle soap works good as well. There are a million leather protectors, but for anything that will be out in the weather, I like
Works great and lasts a long time, protects against weather and sun.
