AIS has left the building 11 Months, 1 Week ago
Got the Baron's kit in the mail and took the time last night to remove the AIS system. I had no idea how much tubing and stuff needed to come out. The airflow around the engine has GOT to be better without all this in front of it. Maybe the mpg will improve just from weight loss alone

Time to learn about the carb now - jetting and PMS and whatever else there is to know. I like knowing the ins/outs of this bike!

Not only that, but you can clean those areas where the silly thing used to be. The PO of my bike wasn't as diligent as he thought he was, where keeping things clean is concerned, and there are some issues in that area on my casing .

These are really fun bikes to tinker on. I have a friend who looks for problem cases where scooters are concerned, and fixes them and then resells them. Some of the bikes he works on, look like nothing short of a mares nest compared to the Roadie. He had a water cooled 800cc something or other Suzuki awhile back, I just looked at it and shook my head.

I know what you mean about more places to clean. There was a lot of dirt in there I didn't see before - I thought I was doing a good job
I've been catching up on old OCC episodes lately and between that and what I read here, I'd like to become more adventurous in what I try on this bike. Fixing the primary right away (PO issues) when I got the R* was a big deal and needed to be done (successfully thanks to the clinic). Now it's more about learning cause I want to.
...though I keep seeing hard frames and rolling chassis available on craigslist and it makes me wonder about building custom just once...

If you disconnect the AIS it the manifold,
and plug the vacuum hole on the manifold will that
shut the AIS down and do you need to take all the crap off?

In theory, no (for awhile).

The AIS system isn't really designed to have exhaust gases going backwards through it, so it won't live forever. Also, getting rid of all that crap is half the reason to pull the AIS.

You'll need a BLOCK OFF KIT from somewhere (ebay is cheaper). Pull off all the AIS crap, install the block off kit and plug off the nipple on the intake manifold. Easy mod.

Can't you make your own plugs, like out of the existing
pipes, take the crap off and plug the takeoff on the manifold
and your good to go??
