Preload nut stuck 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I want to back off my preload setting. It's a tad over 2". But my locking nut must have been hammered tight. I tried using hammer with the 32 mm wrench in tool kit and only managed to damage that cheap wrench.

I was thinking of going to HF and buying better 32 mm but thought I'd ask for advice here first. Do I need pipe wrench?

Help!

I've had luck with the lock ring by using a bit of WD-40 or any other penetrating oil, a hammer and a flat blade screw driver, the farther out on the edge of one of the fingers the better. I have the right spanner wrench for that ring but it's so tight in there that once it's seated I can't move the wrench.

Guess I need to make sure which forum I'm on before I respond, the above advise is for my dirtbike, please disregard that advise. On my roadie I have to have the bike on a stand to get enough clearance to move the wrench then I still smack it with a hammer.

Don't have any luck without the wheel off the ground. Still tough though. Lots of tension on it.

Dich that POS shock and get a Roadwing conversion. You can adjust your preload on the fly at the touch of a button. Get a GL1800 rear shock and do the swap. It's worth it. I'm starting to sound like a broken record I know.

I had the same prob. I took it to the dealer and they did it for free. The guy just used a big-arse adjustable crescent wrench. It's all about leverage.

+1 on a better wrench. also be sure that your wrench is only on the flats of the lock nut and not both nuts. if you use two wrenches it's even better....
