#510432 retsfcgman (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 12 Change oil on my 2003 Road Star 11 Months ago   Need some advice/help. I have been using Yamalube 10w-40 for the past 43,092 miles on my 2003 Roadstar. Got a hair up my back side and decided to change to Valvoline 20w-50 full synthetic motorcycle oil. Rode it the pass 3 days maybe 150 miles and went to leave on it this morning and it was hard to shift both up or down shift. Thinking I might need to go back to Yamalube so not to mess up my clutch. Any idea's? Not that I love them, but these things usually come from somwhere. I know lots of people that won't run Mobil 1 because they are sick of hearing about Exxon Mobil's profits. What gives, bro? Platinum Boarder Posts: 10239 Re:Change oil on my 2003 Road Star 10 Months, 4 Weeks ago   Back in the '70s I used the stuff in my private vehicle and the engine was full of sludge after 30,000 miles. Changed oil every 3000 miles. Since the refinery was in Ashland where I was stationed with KSP they had a deal with the state to test it in our cruisers. We had more oil related problems than any other oil we used. I'm sure it's improved by now but we didn't use it in our cruisers any more. Everybody was Penzoil people in the family cars. I didn't know if it might be Ashland Energy related. Lots of folks feel like they got screwed over by them on mineral rights and royalties, but that's business you should hire a lawyer for anyway, in my experience in Texas anyway. The Super America stores were owned by Ashland, and I used to get the best performance in all my vehicles with thier gas in the early 90's when I still lived in Ky. I always heard Quaker State was a sludging oil too, but as I get older and learn more, the engine's oil system design can create a lot of sludge and coking.   Logged       The administrator has disabled public write access.
