15w was just a guess. I can go 10w no prob.

15w Bell Ray will be just fine.
Just did the 20,000mile going over,
used B R 15w for oil change with Stock Springs.
The ride feels great, just doesn't dive as fast.

I had thought for 18,000miles that the front end felt
awfully squishy for such a big heavy bike... with 5w
oil in the forks,I guess now I know why.

I'm not the only one on here with Progressives and 10 wt. running with a smile down the road, there's lots of them out there. You'll like the way it handles.

Well, finally got some time to start this project and now I'm at a standstill. it's seems I need a T handle wrench of some sort ( YM-01326 according to the service manual)to remove the cylinder bolt inside to lower tube. I've tried a search to find some sort of size socket or hex but so far have come up empty handed. (nothing on ebay, either)
So unless somebody has a suggestion, I'll be off to the local crooks to have them do it for me.

Are you talking about getting the dampener rod out? If so, I've just used a broom handle to hold the rod and long allen wrench to take the bolt out of the bottom of the leg that holds it in.

Yes the dampener rod. I'll give the broom handle a try. Thanks.

It's a huge help at that point to have the allen driver and the impact wrench. A broom handle and a helper, or a place to lean into it for traction, if you don't have an impact wrench.

The saga continues:

Well the broom stick trick worked great. After that is where things went south.
wrestled with the thing for an hour before I finally got the tubes separated. The seal just wouldn't budge.

So then, it's apart, cleaned up, put back together and what?? realize the rebound spring is on the wrong side of the inner tube; so back apart again....not so fast...now the dang brass babbitt is galled up and wont move.
Busted the top cap, and buggered the heck out of the finish on the outer tube. Now I'm thoroughly frustrated.

Was scared to touch the other fork, but I did. Amazingly it was done ready to go back on the bike in 25 min.

as for now, I'm hunting another fork. Somebody shoot me.

Got mine at the shop at this moment. Hoping to pick it up this afternoon. Progressive 465 in the rear and progressive springs with 10W going in the front. Can't wait..
