Valve adjustment DONE! 10 Months ago
Man this site keeps me busy.. Motivates me to do things to the Roadie.... Just came in from finishing up. Had one Intake valve out of spec. Believe that might be where my constant tick was coming from after being warm. Will find out in the morning when I head out on a Poker Run for Autism... Thanks for all the great posts and information. The Tech Article on doing the Valve Adj. is great.

I don't know how you find time to ride as much work as you have done on your bike. Congrats on everything. You've done some good work on it.

I think everyone who reads this thread will now hear a tick whether it's there or not. I know I do now! Not planning anything until after the Ohio M&G just in case I have another FUBAR moment.

====================

None of the 3 bikes really needed the valve adj because the main reason behind having a hyd cam & lifter setup is to be pratically maint free vs having to chk/set valve clearance every so often with a solid FT cam lifter setup!

Yami only recs that valve clearance be checked to cover thier butt and generate additional srvc work too.

But as long as the r* gets bike specific oil with proper zddp for the Ft cams and the valve are adj correctly from the factory you should be able to go a heck aof a ot more miles then 16k before requring a valve adj.

But if improper oils been used in the R* with low zddp lvls for loong periods of time and that motor running low zddp oil see more then avg idling time in traffic where oil pressures lower for less then optimal oiling along with maybe that same motor not getting timely oil & filter changes thats when the oil with low zddp can get you in trouble with ft cams/lifters the R* has.

I've got over 20,000 on mine and was starting to wonder if I should feel guilty for not adjusting my valves 4,000 miles ago... Seriously, no ticks or other aberrant noises AT ALL (knock on wood). And as much of a fan as I am of "fixing it even if it ain't broke", I think I'm leaving the valves alone until THEY tell me they need attention. Not the best tact, I know...
