So with Mobil 1 you can use GL-5 in lower GL rating applications, but thats not true about other gear oils? I did read the link in one of the threads on the site about Mobil 1 GL-5 being compatible for GL-4, and thats why I went ahead and did the change, but I didnt know that they were the only one you can do that with. Good to know. Thanks a lot. Can anyone give a brief explaination or links to sites where I can learn of how oil ratings work. i.e. weights, gl ratings, what they mean and do, etc. I would appreciate it. Its hard talking about this stuff and not having the first clue about what it means
