Probably a stupid ? 1 Year, 8 Months ago
Hi all. New to the site and new to cruisers. Last bike was an F4. Figured it was time to sit back and relax. Anyway, I picked up an '07 Silverado in Nov, put on 23 miles and had to park it because of snow. I was told by a friend to pull the battery and put it on a tender, which I did, especially since where I store it there's no power. Went out today to prep the bike and wow, how do I get the seat back off without power? Ign switch doesn't do much without juice. Anyone mind telling a bagger rookie where the manual release is? The book was no help and the dealership is closed. All my other bikes had a visible key lock. Cant see anything.

You don't need power, its activated by a cable running from the ignition switch...

Put the key in. Turn the key to the left. Don't push down on the key when you turn it. Might help to push down on the nose of the seat at the same time.

I did the same thing when I got mine. Was ready to use a pry bar on it. My daughter figured it out by reading the manual. Must be a guy thing.

I find that I still can't always hit the sweet spot to release the seat. But this seems to work without fail for me. Push the key in and tuen all the way left to lock the forks. Turn right until the key pops up. Go left again without pushing down.I also have a 7-step method for kicking up the kickstand.

The first day of ownership my salesmen had to ask the tech how to release the seat... I'm still a little leary of the pressure you have to put on the key to get it to release... But, it gets easier with time...

That was my thoughts when I first got my bike but I've found that mine opens a lot easier if I put a little pressure on the key with one hand and then wiggle the seat with the other. Mine easily pops loose like that.

I think EVERYONE has gone through this one when I bought my R* the guy I got it from rode it 300 miles and parked scared to ride it and the battery was dead soooowe spent 2 hours trying to remove the seat taking off side covers etc. to get to the battery then his wife came out wanting to know how much longer and we explained the problem and she reached over pushed on the seat turned the key and popped it off to our amazment! Then said "Honey don't you remember the salesman explaining that to you?"
