Belt adjustment 6 Months, 4 Weeks ago
I had been getting a little chirp when changing gears so I adjusted the belt..I was amazed at how little it took to quiet things down..I only turned the adjuster bolts about a 1/4 of a turn and it was good...

Yes, it definitely doesn't take much.

The belt on mine was too tight right from the dealership...to the point of causing a tiny seal leak on the drive pulley. Just a little tweak and all was well.

Yes better too loose than too tight.

So how often should I change that belt? Almost no miles, and always garaged, but 10 years old.

I think I already know the answer.

When it breaks.

If it looks OK then I'd not bother changing it.

I've noticed if I'm traveling over 30-40 and turn off the throttle, I hear a small chirp...I'm guessing that its the belt because everything else is tight as a drum. My RS is at the dealership getting the trans recall so the belt will be reinstalled and adjusted...it will be interesting to see if I still get the chirp.

I adjusted my belt too, and was amazed as well. After I was done, I look at each side and I saw a notch on the frame just over the axle. Are those notches suppose to align with the ones on the tightener?

I just had new tires mounted by the dealer. Now the belt chirps a tiny when I'm walking it backwards. I guess I'll take it back (especially given how much they charged me).

No .... those are supposed to be used to make sure each side is the same but unfortunately those notches are not always in the correct place. It's best to measure from the swing arm pivot to make sure the axle is equidistance on each side.

Thanks Doc, I did measure and they pretty much are the same distance on each side.
