Pilot jet setting? 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago
background on my scooter:
2001 Roadstar Silverado
Carb has been rejetted(before me)
Bub shorty drag pipes(loud and proud)
K&N Big Air Dry charger

Question : I was getting a lot of backfire on decelleration, so a buddy of mine that went thru MMI adjusted the Pilot jet. Since then, I have lost power and my MPG's are in the toilet. Can a carb set too lean cause major problems?

Question : What is the factory setting on the pilot jet? tighted all the way and back it off how far?

Question : I haven't seemed to found a fuel filter. Does the Roadie have one? if so, where?

I do most of the small maint on it like plugs and oil changes.. but I think messing with the carb is beyond me.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Usually the fix for backfiring on decel is to tweak the PMS. I'm not an expert in carb settings though. You just got the extent of my carb knowledge. BTW cos64628.

If your talking about the PMS setting ... start by turning it in till' it seats lightly, then back it out 2 1/2 turns. Thats a good starting point. If you still get popping open 1/4 turn more. Factory settings are all over the place on PMS.
The fuel filter is under the chrome cover on the left side..(as you set on the bike). Follow your fuel line from the petcock.
It would be good to know what jets your running though...someone may have got it to rich, like in a lot of cases.
A carb set to lean can cause major problems...burning pistons is one.

Is the fuel filter reusable? I have looked high and low for a replacement and can't seem to find one..

Your better off getting a new filter. The Yami part # is 1fk-24560-10-00.

The filter doesn't have to match the stocker. And filter will work if it fits the gas line and is close to right size.

Yami wanted around 10 bucks for the filter here... I got 1 from auto parts store for an old Chrysler..exactly the same, for 2.59. Since I have Mopar parts on her now , how much Horsepower have I gained.
