If you have a 1600 I would say yes. For a 1700 I just can't get that excited about it. But that's just my opinion.

heferwiz57 what Cougar is trying to tell you is unless you are running High Compression pistons and cams you need to set it for the A series of settings. With the A series of setting the last two switches (7&8) don't do anything at all. It's like they aren't even there. The B setting are for HOPPED up motors and that is where the last two switches come into play plus some additional wiring which you don't have. Just set the first six switches the way you want them. I am running 34A I have also run 36A. 34A gives me my hp and torque peaks where I need them for passing and such. BTW never take you R* past 5000 rpm it isn't good for the engine.
I installed mine today as well and got to take her for a test run a minute ago...... I set it at 5000 rpm and 34A it had a lot better get up and go power seems like then before and never hit the rev limiter. How much difference would the 36A setting make and where would you notice the power at that setting. Thanks for all the advice on this item.

Not real sure I know it pushes them higher in the rpm range than 34A. I will have to find my old dyno runs and look at the to see.

It's for folks who like to wind it out most of the time.
I have some Dyno runs comparing the different settings ... if I can find them.

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

DocSo do you think I should stick with the 34A setting we usualy run aroung 75-85 mph while cruising and every once in a while get on down on it. If you can find the Dyno runs please post them. Thanks!

Each person is different. 32A is like stock and it seems that most folks like 34A over 36A.
I was checking out my files but no-to yet. Must have stored it somewhere where it wouldn't get lost.

Regarding the passing lamps: the dyna website says to run one of the wires through a switch that would then go to ground. It says not to turn on that switch to activate the lamps until the engine is running. Is this true? Is there a way keep the lamps operable just as from the factory?

Yes and No You cannot have the lamps work as they did stock (come on after bike is started) I leave switch to them on all the time and have had no problems for the last 9000miles
