#65190 Insurancedon (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 13 2002 Road Star electrical upgrade for accessories 9 Months, 1 Week ago   My bike is basically stock except pipes and driving lights. If I were to want additional accessories such as GPS, lighting and perhaps heated gloves/vest etc. would I need to upgrade the electrical? One person suggested that when my battery needs replacement, upgrade from the current 18 amp to a 20 amp.(not that this would address the heating issue) I am going to put in a Power outlet for my GPS but got to thinking about future needs that may be more demanding on the electrical supply. Thanks for your help on this. One thing you can do to reduce the load is to replace the all of the turn signal and the tail/stop light bulbs with LED types. I searched around yesterday and found an article on this site that told me how to change it out and what items are needed. It seems a little too complicated for me to attempt. I think the parts will be $300+ and then I'll need to find someone to do it. I'm headed out to the Bamabike fest in two weeks and will at least have my GPS running. After that I'll do the upgrade. My son has a `05 Midnight Star and he has the driving lights, heated gloves, heated overpants and the heated gloves all going at the same time. The bike never gives him any trouble..... I also have heated gear for my wife and I. We have a `06 Roadie Silverado. Ya should be OK as long as you keep the passing lamps to 35 watts.. here is a great gadget ...lets you see the load on yer system...
