This site is awesome! If it was not for the great people here I would have never known about sticky valves. Yamaha would have told me "nothing was wrong"and "this is normal"and I would fallen through the cracks without any recourse. I am tempted to tell Yamaha as part of the settlement that they give a corporate check to this site for their dedication to this bike. Please don't get me wrong I love this site and when I get down I can come here and talk to people who know what I'm talking about instead of looking at me and saying "sticky what?"

I have an '04 with 42K miles. I've been afraid of SVS from this site and other sites; but have been lucky I guess. I had issues when I first got my bike. Fouled plugs, set too rich; blowing out blue flame. New plugs fixed this problem. I've had electrical problems twice; but other than that my R* has been good to me. Sorry about your problems.

I feel for you law...Unfortunately I bought my bike used it only had 5600 miles on it when I got it .Just made the third payment if that helps any.It already had the longshots and BAK on it. One of my buds has an 05 with 29k on it and only had one issue with svs(although yamaha didn't bother to tell him thats what it was) I explained it to him yesterday. I did Curts deep creep flush this weekend and this thing was running like a scalded dog. I love this machine the way it sounds and handles i'm just not feeling the love back. I wish there were a way we as a r* community could get together and petition Yamaha for some brand loyalty of their own. It just seems after being on here for a while that the 04-05's have several common problems that should require a recall. I've wanted one of these bikes for 5 years and now that I finally got one.....I'm just heartbroke. We buy these bikes instead of HD's for the dependability factor...but so far its just not here... I just put on a new battery..Now I'm gonna try and find a deal on a voltage regulator then move on to the stator.....KEEP THE SHINY SIDE UP PEOPLE>>>I"LL BE IN THE GARAGE.

Well gents in my openion SVS is a result of changing things from stock to what you want to add. All I had done to my 05 bike was add HK K2 pipes and windshield. At 3000 miles the rear cylinder quit the dealer said it was fouled plugs replace them and charged me for it. I took it back 5 times and the dealer never got it fixed right. I finally did all the jetting work myself and got it fixed after many tries. As far as I am concered the dealer is the one that screwed it up and caused my SVS. I have put 8000 miles on it now after fixing it and haven't had a problem one and I'm pushing 20,000 miles. She runs great as it sould and I am really pleased with it. The wrenches at the dealers don't have the time or know how to devote to it like I did. The dealer charges you every time you bring it in no matter what and my pockets arn't that deep. I have a 19 yo stepson that is a better wrench on the R* than the ones at the dealer I took it to. He learned right by MY side. The dealers are the problem if they did it then they should fix it no matter how many tries they have to do it.

I agree wholeheartedly Curt I'm a pretty good wrench myself and love to tinker with my bike .But damn the failures that keep you from being able to enjoy the machine. I never go to a dealer for anything. If it weren't for these forums I don't know what I'd do. Viva La Estralla Fraternidad

Yes my battery is getting weak as well the hot weather kills them and it was 105 today. But after all it is 3 years old and I run a lot of lights and my main beam on high all the time so I can't grip about that I guess.

Curt
Did you figure out why the bat went bad or was it as you said; old age and high lighting draws?

Hey Law, my 06 developed svs at 2800 miles. My warranty had expired but my dealer fixed it and charged it off to yamaha corp. Said if i had more problems they would take care of it.I think some of the roadblocks are from the dealer not wanting to fix things instead of yami corp. Have you tried a differnt dealer for a second opinion? good luck in your battle/ roadhog1

Hey roadhog1 what did they do to fix it? Did they ream the valves and put new springs in? Did they rejet or lower the oil level? Did they treat it with ring free? just curious.

I think "FIX" is a relative term when it comes to dealers and svs. i don't think some ringfree and dropping the oil level is a fix . It's a bandaid. Yamaha knows theres a problem and they are just not willing to stand by there product it's a shame.
