Tachometer - car vs motorcycle 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
This might be too technical a question but would love a simple answer:

Can anyone explain to me the difference between a motorcycle and a car tachometer, other than mounting options? Without knowing, it would seem to me that wiring would be similar if not the same (wire to ground, wire to coil).

Coug is correct but that is at the calibration end...the universal car tachs you buy are switchable and can be switched to be used with a 4 or 6 or 8 cyl

but at the wiring end I believe the pos. neg.. ground and light wires
are the same as the motorcycle tach

A Tach for a single fire dual coil ignition as on our R* is differently calibrated than a tach for the single coil dual fire ignition on a Harley..but again one pos and neg coil wire and a black ground and light wire..4 wires the same

Some one correct me if im wrong....
