can't quite make out which GPS unit you have, but have you checked out RAM mounts as a possibility for mounting? They do make some handlebar mounts for various model GPS. Usually run $30-$35.

I have a Magellan- Maestro 3250. If you click the pic it is easier to see. I may have to go back to Radio Shack....the chick that works there is HOT!

Thats where I got my mount for my Magellan Sport Track Map.... LOVE IT!
It was really handy when I was traveling around between Missouri and Pa. I would stop for the night and pop my bags off because of my Ghost Mounts and pop my Travel bag off, then the GPS came out and went in with me! Locked the bike and there was really nothing to steal other than the bike itself and I had it locked up.

RAM Mounts rock!!
