Electrical help with fairing installation... 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
My Tsukayu fairing is coming in the next couple of days and I'm not really sure how to wire it. It's got 3 wires, 2 of which go directly to the battery (I think I can do that part), but the 3rd needs to be tied in to the "IGN/ACC under the ignition switch"... I have no idea what they're talking about. Can anyone help???

Thanks!

Well, without seeing it, it's hard to tell, but from what you decribe, it needs one circuit that is hot all the time, the two wires to the batt,,, and another circuit that is on only when the ignition is on...the third wire...

Ok, it will have a terminal block in it that you will hook up your accessories to,,If you want your cigarette lighter to work all the time you would hook it to the side of the terminal that is to the batt..the sticky part is, is if you want to have something on with a draw that is high, such as passing lights,, you hook them to the direct side but hook the relay to the ign. side, that way they only draw current when the Ign is on...

Did I mention that I have ABSOLUTELY ZERO knowledge about electrical wiring...LOL I need a picture that says "hook the brown wire here".... Honestly, I have no idea what you said above...lol

It comes with a stereo and this is what needs the electricity hook up. I can hook both of the wires up to the battery but I'd have to remember to turn it off all the time and I would lose all my pre-set stations everytime I turned it off, which would be a PITA...

Ok I got ya, the stereo will have a wire going to it that is supposed to be hooked straight to the batt to maintain the pre sets...the other hot lead to the stereo should go to the ign switch...By doing this, you have a small current drain to the stereo all the time to keep the pre sets, but when you listen to it the ign will have to be on...Or you can hook it all up to the batt and the stereo will work all the time, but you will have to remember to turn it off when your not riding or the batt will be drawn down to DEAD...

Coachk, when your fairing arrives can you let us know what you thought of the product, quality, shipping, ease of installation etc. Any info you think is worth sharing Thanks

Re:Electrical help with fairing installation... 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Well, let's see... It came in today, a little over a month after I ordered it. It comes in a fiberglass box and everything was packaged pretty well. I had them paint mine black, and the paint looks to be pretty well done (I haven't gone over it with a fine tooth comb yet!LOL) The stereo and speakers are better quality than some of the other fairings that I looked at, however, I don't think the speakers are marine grade... I'm very pleased with the product, but the installation hasn't gone so smoothly for me...

As far as installation, you have to use a Memphis shades bracket for the fairing to fit. Well, I tried to put the Memphis Shades brackets on, but they WON'T work with my lightbar, and I don't want to give up my extra lights, SO, I'm going to put my original brackets back on and see if I can find someone to fabricate some brackets to fit. My only complaint about the whole thing so far is why they didn't just make a bracket to fit the original Yamaha mounts instead of having to go to go to Memphis Shades mounting brackets.

Oh yeah, and now my lightbar doesn't work after taking it apart to put the different mounts on...PERFECT!!!LOL

If I remember right, the Star you have, had the passing lamps on the high beam circuit... you might have the Passing Lamp plug inside your headlamp bucket... (Check out this thread... Click on this link)
If'n that's the case, tap into that wire and your accessories will only come on when the bike is started and running... (Which would be a great load center because your passing lamps aren't using that circuit.)
