I have an 05 Midnight and have a problem that's getting worse... When I hit the start button it will click but not turn the bike over... If I keep clicking it, it will usually finally catch and it will fire right up...Things I have done are 1. New Battery (heavy duty Yusa) 2. Cleaned and greased battery connections.. Cleaned and greased connections on starter relay.. Cleaned and greased connection to starter.. This has left me stranded 1 time and I traced the clicking sound to the decompression solinoid... The clicking is the solinoid working properly.... I sat there and clicked it 50 times and it never would catch and fire up the motor... Friend had a battery charger and we hooked it up to the battery.. Waited awhile and still it would only click.. Finally it did catch and fire up but I don't think it is a bad battery.. Right now it will click each time you push the starter button normally 2 or 3 times and then it will catch and fire right up... After it fires up you can kill it with the key and it will fire right back up 5 to 10 times before it starts clicking again... What am I missing... It sounds like a loose connection but I don't know where else to look...

How old is the battery?
Never mind. I just read you have a new battery. Eyes must be gettin' old.

The next time it clicks like this take a heavy gauge wire with your seat off and the key in the on position touch one end of the wire to your positive side of the battery and the other end directly to the starter right where the large wire hooks on. It will spark but don't get alarmed. If the bike starts immediately then you know there is nothing wrong with your starter or your battery. If the bike starts ok in this manner the first thing I would replace would be the main fuse starter relay assembly.
Part# 4BH-81940-02-00 Aproximate cost $40.00

Is it still doing it? Suspect the starter relay. An intermittent of this sort is usually the relay contacts not always making a complete circuit. It lives under the left side cover. If it's bad, you should hear it clicking at the same time as the button is pushed, but there'll be no voltage on the 'downstream' side to the starter.
