RPM on speedometer. 4 Years, 9 Months ago
I just finished a circuit that shows alternate or by choice the RPM on the speedometer.

It can be set to show alternate RPM/Speed with adjustable interval or fixed on one or the other.
The speedo moves quick between the two.
Gives indication when RPM is selected by lighting the engine light.

Anyone interested?
Price will be much lower than that of a separate RPM tachometer.
And no extra gauge on your bike!

Sounds like a great idea! Do you have any video/photo of it in action?

Are you refering to the same engine light that flashes code in the self diagnostic system at start up and during operation if a problem arises????? If you are will it compromise the validity of using the indicator to the point where it doesnt flash at all when the Tach is selected. It sounds like an interesting idea and as RK said a video would be great...Coug

Just curious... Does your circuit use this "IC" (opens a PDF file...)in its' core?
Or is this just adding some circuit jumpers to the existing Speedo control board?
Are there negitive effects of this application on the Star?

I can make it so it only works if the speedo is selected or have it work inverted.

I am still in development, but the speedo reacts very quick as it is driven by a stepper motor.

I do absolutely nothing to the speedo unit circuitry but switch with a divider between the speedo and the RPM signal and feed that to the speedometer.

One thing is that I will affect the odometer reading.
Can do nothing about that.

Sounds like you are just changing the circuit. Is this going to be something that is going to be available as a diagram or are there going to be more in depth changes required i.e. adding components/ other than a switch and maybe a small amount of wire? I'm interested when things start happening for you and you get the bugs worked out, if any.
Thanks

The Roadliner has a tach in its dash panel ... I have often wondered if it would be possible to put a roadliner dash on a roadstar?

Keep us posted ... I would love to have a tach on my bike. Maybe set it up so it would switch over to 'tach mode' when you hold a button down (on the handlebars maybe?) then you would not need to mess with the check engine light.
