Oh, I know exactly how it happened...I changed bars back from the beach bars to the HD FLH mini-apes. Simple process, done it half a dozen times so far...

And to answer Musky's question...and comments ...since I have a 20-month old daughter, all my tinkering gets to be done after family time, between midnight and 3 AM. Sooo...first time I pulled it off I gave it a quick look and the silver sheathing hadn't separated yet...I breezed right by it. That was bout 2 AM. second time was a little earlier the next night, and I was frustrated and yanked a little harder...and the plastic finished splitting, I saw the OBVIOUS problem, and my joy at finding the culprit was quickly tempered by a strong feeling of "you dumb*ss, you shoulda seen that the first time!"

But hey--at least I got the chance to clean up all the other wiring on the bike I've been meaning to tidy up.
