Re:Electrical help with fairing installation... 3 Months, 1 Week ago
I think the red with yellow stripe is an ignition wire (in the headlight bucket). It works for passing lamps. If you want the stereo on only when the ignition is on, you could splice into that. Don't know though if it that circuit could handle the load of the stereo though, but I would assume that just completes a circuit and the power is coming from the battery wire. Did you run the other wires back to the battery? Does it work like that or does this 3rd wire HAVE to be connected?

If you don't know how to splice, several ways, buy a splicer, connects to both wires and closes like a clamp. Or you can strip some of the insulation off of the wire and solder the wires together and elect. tape it good.

If your passing lamps are tapped into this wire, you might want to either put that on a separate switch or run them to the high or low beam line instead. Of course if you have an '06 or later, the passing lamps I think have their own wire. This is all from memory, so you should check out the passing lamp wiring diagram to verify the color of the wires.

Take what I say with a grain of salt. I could be completely wrong. But it sounds about right.

Thanks for the help... I've got to pick up my motorcycle today and won't get a chance to wire it up until Sunday, so I'll check out the diagrams and try wiring just the 2 wires to the battery and see if it works or not. (then I may be getting back to you!!!LOL)

Thanks again!
